My Epic Bike Trip to Ladakh – A Dream Come True!

Hey fellow riders and adventurers,

I just got back from one of the most unforgettable journeys of my life – a bike trip to Ladakh – and I couldn’t wait to share my experience with this awesome community!

Ladakh has always been on my bucket list. The idea of riding through rugged mountain roads, crossing high-altitude passes, and soaking in the surreal landscapes was just too tempting. So this summer, I finally decided to go for it – and trust me, it was totally worth it.

:motorway: Route Taken:

We started from Manali and followed the classic Manali–Leh Highway. Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Manali → Jispa
  • Jispa → Sarchu
  • Sarchu → Leh
  • Then did local sightseeing including Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Khardung La (one of the highest motorable roads in the world!)

On the return, we took the Leh–Srinagar route to make a loop.

:sunrise_over_mountains: Highlights:

  • Crossing Baralacha La, Tanglang La, and Khardung La – what a rush!
  • Camping at Pangong Lake under a sky full of stars.
  • The surreal views of Nubra Valley – it’s like riding on another planet.
  • The culture, the people, the monasteries – so peaceful and welcoming.

:hammer_and_wrench: Challenges:

  • AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) hit a couple of us, so acclimatization is key.
  • Roads can be really unpredictable – landslides, river crossings, snow patches.
  • Carrying spare parts, extra fuel, and a solid toolkit helped big time.

:bulb: Tips for Fellow Bikers:

  1. Get your bikes thoroughly serviced before the trip.
  2. Ride in groups if possible – safety and backup matter.
  3. Stay hydrated and listen to your body – altitude can be tricky.
  4. Don’t rush – take time to enjoy the landscapes and people.

This trip tested my endurance but also gave me a new appreciation for nature and freedom. If any of you are planning a Ladakh bike trip, feel free to drop questions – happy to help!

Also, if you’ve done it before, would love to hear your stories and which routes you took!

Ride safe and ride free!
